The Government has published a policy paper setting out its proposed approach and timescales for setting long term legally binding targets to meet its environmental aspirations. The paper advocates adoption of a systems wide approach to the natural environment and that include setting at least one target for each of the four priority areas: air quality, biodiversity, water, and resource efficiency and waste reduction by October 2022. Public consultation is expected in early 2022 once the initial targets have been developed.
The paper is aimed at parties that are interested in understanding how the targets will be developed and is split in to three sections:
- The process for developing targets
- Scope of the proposed targets
- Sources of information and how you can get involved
